Use Palm T3 and Nokia 6021 together

v 1.0 (September 29, 2005)
v 1.1 (September 30, 2005)

History

Recently I've get a Nokia 6021 phone, but the problem was use it with my Palm T3, for example to connect to internet using GPRS, dial numbers directly from the T3, use SMS, etc.. they don't seem to work together.

The only related thing I found was this topic but there were no solution, only a clue to the final solution.

As some people reported this phone working with PPC, it was obvious that the problem was on the palm side. First of all I searched the latest version of the Palm Phone Link (v3 at the time I write this), but the Nokia 6021 wasn't supported by it. Then I search at the Nokia Site witch of the supported phones was similar to the 6021, and I found that the Nokia 6230 seems to be a very close relative, with minor differences. I tried to select the Nokia 6230 at the Palm to connect to the 6021, but it won't work.

At this point I decided to try the solution explained at this topic that consist of copying a file ( BtCommVdrv.prc) of a T5 on a T3. I thought that this was the right way because at the Palm Site they say this about Phone Link v3:

So, if the Palm Phone Link have problems with the Nokia 6230 and the T3 and not with the T5, it's clear that the bluetooth stack is different between the T3 and the T5. After copying the file on the T3 and perform a soft reset, the situation was the same, the 6021 wasn't working with the T3 and, what's more, the bluetooth option was missing as a connection method for any device!! and after the soft reset the file is continually in use so you can't delete it.

I had a look at a T5 and I found that there were other files relatives to bluetooth, so I copied all to the T3. This wasn't a good idea. After a soft reset the T3 froze at the start routine. I need to perform 2 hard resets to have the T3 alive again. Then I copied the files one by one to see witch one was causing this, and I found that a file named BtTransport.prc was causing this. So hard reset again, and then I copied all the files but BtTransport.prc and BTExgLibDB.pdb (because it wasn't at the T5, but not at ROM) and after a soft reset the T3 was working with the Bluetooth stack of a T5 and the bluetooth manager of the T5, with more features. Then I installed the Phone Link v3 and select as phone the Nokia 6021 and that is!! The phone was working!!

Now my T3 and Nokia 6021 are working together:

And now a step-by-step

Please, note that this "update" is at your own risk. Before proceed MAKE A BACKUP of all your data, and HotSync the device.
Important: Some files have the program file (Example: BtCommVdrv.prc) and the localization file (Example: BtCommVdrv_esES.prc). All the files used here are for Spanish speaking Palm, if this is not your case your need the localization files relatives to your Palm language (German = deDE; English USA = enUS; Spanish = esES; French = frFR; Italian = itIT)

  1. Pair your T3 and the 6021
  2. On the 6021 go to Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Bluetooth -> Paired devices. There select your T3 and press "options" and then "Auto-conn without confirmation" and set it to "Yes"
  3. Download this file: Bluetooth_T5.zip and extract all the files. This file is for a T3 speaking Spanish, if not your case, you need to copy the files from a T5 speaking your language (for the localization files, as explained before) You don't have a T5? Well, let me explain some thing: Shopping Center. There you'll find shops like Fnac were you can test the devices. So go there with a SD card with Filez and copy the files there. Please, note that the file Bluetooth_T5.zip doesn't exist at any T5, I created it with all the files needed for a Spanish T3. You need to search for the individual files contained in this zip file but in your language.
  4. Copy the following extracted files (in the step 3) to your T3 (to the device, not an SD card) Do not copy this files (if you get it from a T5): BtTransport.prc / BtTransport_esES.prc / BtExgLibDB.pdb This will cause a hard reset to your T3!!!
  5. Perform a soft reset for the new bluetooth stack to load
  6. Download the Palm Phone Link v3 from Palm Site or here and extract the content
  7. Copy the following extracted files to your T3 (to the device, not an SD card)
